Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) form a very important part of the health care sector. Such technicians work round the day and have to adjust with irregular working hours. In case of emergencies like accidents, people’s lives depend on the swift action of these technicians, as they are trained to handle such situation. Many incidents call for instant medical attention such as heart attacks, falls and slips, gunshots, automobile accidents, childbirth etc. In such situations, paramedics and EMTs put forward the essential services, as these technicians take care of the patient and take them to a medical facility as soon as possible.
The Emergency Medical Technicians often work with firefighters as well as police and handle sudden accident or any other case that requires quick medical attention. These technicians try their best to diagnose the condition of the patient and then offer the required emergency care to them. These people also put forwards extra emergency treatment. These people record all the details about the incident, check the equipments and even reinstate the used supplies. In case, any patient has any kind of a contagious disease, then they also decontaminate the ambulance and give report about the patient’s condition to the authorities.
Levels of technicians
Other than the general duties that the Emergency Medical Technicians renders the exact responsibilities of these technicians depend on the level of training and qualification of the emergency technicians. These technicians are categorized in different levels. These levels are:
- First responder
- EMT Basic
- EMT Intermediate
However, a few of the state have their own titles and distinct names for different categories of emergency technicians. Emergency technicians of different levels receive proper training and skills to handle different situations. The skills of technicians belonging to different levels are also different. The technicians of higher levels are highly trained as well.
